What is the MSI?   Why a MSI?
The Media Sales Institute (MSI) is a ten-day, intense training program developed by Personal Selling Principles (PSP) for graduating college or university seniors who are passionately interested in pursuing a career in media sales. The curriculum is designed to provide an entree into media sales for talented students of diverse backgrounds. The MSI was created to address the media industry's challenge of ensuring a diverse workforce representative at all levels. Over 90% of senior management in media today is from sales.In order to meet this challenge the industry needs a large base of qualified and diverse candidates.

Personal Selling Principles (PSP) developed the Media Sales Institute (MSI) training program in 2000.

In addition to the MSI , PSP specializes in personnel and organizational development . Our clients obtain their goals by embracing the PSP concept of "Total Staff Marketing" (TSM)©. Total staff marketing leads to improved internal communication and long term revenue growth.

NABOB's two principal objectives are:

  • To increase the number of African-American owners of telecommunications facilities, and
  • To improve the business climate in which they operate.

The NABOB Telecommunications, Education and Management Foundation was founded in 2001 to educate and train the next generation of leaders in the telecommunications industry. In addition to sponsoring the MSI, the NABOB Foundation has provided training fellowships to young broadcast managers and entrepreneurs.

MSI Highlights
  • The MSI was developed by PSP and launched at Howard University in 2000
  • The first expansion school was Florida A & M University (FAMU) in 2006
  • Expanded to the University of North Texas (UNT) in 2007
  • Candidates have been selected from over 50 universities and colleges
  • Hundreds of candidates have completed the MSI
  • Candidates have been recruited by national and local media companies
  • MSI graduates have been promoted into management
  • Recruiters state MSI candidates have a "competitive advantage" entering media sales
  • Recruiters and lecturers have requested to participate year after year
